I had noticed that a restaurant was renovating a place down the street and wondered what it would be. It turns out it's exactly what I was wishing Clarendon had, a Mediterranean restaurant, Astor! I was hungry tonight and didn't want to go to the lousy mexican dive across the street and remembered Astor, so I biked down 3 blocks and got take away.
I ordered the spinach pie, gyro, and baklava. The spinach pie seemed like it had spent maybe 3 minutes too long in the oven but it's shell was crispy and flakey and the spinach filling was very tasty, not so sour as some other spinach pies I've had. The gyro was definitely money well spent! It was large, I'd say at least 8 or 10 " in length with plenty of delicious lamb in it. The baklava was mostly flakey pastry, very little filling, but it tasted great and came in a satisfying size of about 2" square (it was triangular but you get the idea). My total was barely over $12 and I'm not stuffed, but am pleasantly full, and feel satisfied that I ate a tasty meal.
I'll definitely be going back to try the rest of their menu. :)
