I can't believe that this is still the case in Canada and the United States given the high demand for blood products. The statement that blood recipients have a right to 'clean blood', or whatever bullshit, is misleading because of the implication that by banning queer people from donating you meet that aim. What about all the heterosexual people that donate? They are certainly not all saints or even healthy, and lest we forget the vaunted Heterosexual is the fastest growing segment of the population for HIV infection. Since the underlying meaning is that they don't want blood recipients to get HIV, shouldn't they ban all the black women from donating? All the blood is screened so its source wouldn't matter.

Maybe it's just that they don't want to give people Gay blood in the same way some people wouldn't want to receive Black blood or organs.
