Things getting done

So today my check finally got to the gmu parking services office and my
registration hold was lifted. I registered for my 1 class for fall'06
right away.

I'm also leaving work early today to go home and take my car to a
transmission shop so I can find out why its been sometimes stalling
after I come off the highway.

Fall'06 starts 1 month from today for me.

I get my 2nd paycheck aug1, looking forward to that.

Tranny update

The guys called me and they couldn't find any transmission problems.
That's good. So I suppose I'll just put it in at merchants auto and
have a tune up and oil change and see what happens.

week 5

well, this is now the end of week 5 at my new job. i'm finally able to contribute and feel useful and things are moving along and roles are being marginally redefined and things like this. it really isn't very interesting anymore because it's just the details of how things get done and i'm immersed sufficiently that they aren't that interesting.

but, i'm happy to have a job and i'm enjoying it. :)

i'm probably going to stop making weekly updates though.

Taco borg

I went to taco bell a couple days ago and noticed the sauce packets in
perfect rows in their trays. I was stunned and oddly delighted at the
order I beheld.

Mega man titty!!

10 ways to massive man aerolas!!

Wtf??

This is the 2nd time I've come to the grocery for yogurt and they've
been absolutely out of any kind. Wtf??

New sms site

Twitter.com

I checked it out and its less organized than upoc.com and dodgeball.com
so its usefulness escapes me.

Upoc.com is organized around group topic and dodgeball.com is organized
around physical location. Twitter.com claims to be organized by
'status' but there's no enforced syntax so its just freeform msg
logging, more or less.

Its interesting how different flavors of sms sites are developing around
the service. It makes sense, I guess, because the service is
universally available to everyone with a cellphone. Municipalities and
even the fed deliver alerts via sms, there are sms 'friend' sites, sms
chat sites, etc.

Guardian angel

I'm at murky (yes, I walked here in this nasty humidity) and I look up
to see a ghastly fanged guardian angel watching over me.

The caption on the card under him:

***
XAVIER
Beware of Xavier. He is extremely dangerous...
He's like one of those blind deep sea fish:
He lures in little girls by acting lonely and helpless, and asking them
for a hug to cheer him up...
But then he ATTACKS them!

Yes, that's right. He lives by eating little girls. But please don't
fault him. He doesn't know how else to get a meal, and he has to eat to
survive!
***

I shit you not. Xavier sounds like a badass to me and he's got the look
to go with his attitude.

week4

the weekend almost slipped by without the weekly job update!

not alot of news really. work is becoming more regular though there are alot of internal goings on that i'm not sure amount to much. they are just trying to figure out how to get internal processes working more efficiently.

i loved the long weekend last week so much that i don't want to go to work on monday. wwaahhhh.

i paid my university parking ticket registration hold last week so i should be able to register for the 1 class i'll be taking in the fall.

i drove my car to brunch today. that's the first time i've driven it in over a month. heh. i'll be driving once a week for a long trip to manassas once school starts in late august.

pretty much a boring day. i stopped at the grocery store on my way home from brunch and picked up:
bread
apples
lettuce
lunch meat (smoked ham)
jambalaya
chiabata roll

most of it is for food for this week. the jambalaya, chiabata roll, and lettuce in the fridge from last week will be dinner tonight.

nano-capacitors

RESEARCHERS SAY NANO CAPACITORS COULD DISPLACE BATTERIES

very interesting. could we one day utilize lightning to charge banks of nano-capacitors which would then discharge a flow of electricity supplemented by wind/solar/other sources?

Dude with high socks

Bahahahaha socks pulled up half his leg and brown shoes. Classic++

Falling down stairs

Friday night I fell down the basement stairs. Luckily I was holding the
railing and slowed my fall somewhat but I still hit my left asscheek on
about 7 steps. As you'd expect my rump is smarting even today. I
haven't looked to see if its bruised.

The funny part about this is that I know I'm getting older because aside
from thinking, 'this sucks!' I was also thinking 'don't let the stairs
hit your lower back!'.

Week3

so it's the saturday after the end of week3 of my new job. there have been some pleasant changes since last week. i got a macbook and ipod last weekend and on friday (yesterday) i got my first paycheck. i was quite satisfied to see the extra numbers in my bank account :)

not much new has gone on at work. it seems just the usual 'running around with your head cut off' kind of business stuff, but to their credit, they seem receptive to good ideas of how to solve their problems and do want to get them solved. i don't mind implementing any of the solutions that have come up, so that is good.

it's just your typical kind of stuff where processes were informal because they were a small company but now that their profile, workforce, and workload is increasing they are finding they don't have time to chitchat thier way thru problems and spin the wheels for weeks on end to resolved a small number of sample problems.

it's good for them to feel this pain right now, everyone seems to have the bug in thier butt about trying to regularize group contacts and define/smooth processes.

so anyway, it's good stuff. i get to fiddle with the database more and now i'll get to fiddle with MS access...*puke* It will be fun to mess around with some analysis software though and get some QA pipelines worked up.

that's it for now. we had horrible rain here for about 2 weeks and it's finally back to normal. 82F 54% humidity, clear sky.
