YAJU

so i responded to a careerbuider broadcast email from a recruiter today and he wrote back and asked if i could work in manassas, i said yes, he asked what my hourly rate was, i told him i wanted $50K/yr or $35/hr. now i'm waiting to hear back from him.

that's about it, other than a lady in my seminar class works at mitre and suggested i apply for a specific position there as she always has a hiring req open, so i did and emailed her to tell her i did. now i wait.

this plus the 10 job adverts i applied for last week.

Missing chinatown shots

I guess blogger.com has a post limit for pics. Here are the missing
ones.

Chinatown photo fun!

Lets see if I can remember everything.
First of all, me!
Chinatown gate
Gallery place / chinatown metro stop
Urban outfitter (for brit)
German cultural center and across the street is a hooters.
Some baptist churches.
An alley.
Vincent orange for mayor 2006.
China doll restaurant.
Across the street lunch is $4.95.
A federal building.
A suspendedd walkway between 2 bldgs.

These are all things you would see within 1 block of the gallery place /
chinatown metro stop. :)

'Why is Bush awesome?'

i saw the 1/20/06 rocketboom video on Tivo and it was very funny. After commenting to skefnet about it, aaron mentioned that there were more interviews at MNstories.com.

GWM iso well-written fictional man

so i thought of something awhile ago and forgot and remembered and forgot again as you do with somethings and when i remembered it again i decided it's probably true.

now that i've had alot of time off from school and have been starting to feel more like myself, i.e. vivacious, fun, light-hearted, and interested in personal interaction, i've been feeling like i want to meet people and mix with them and see what develops in a romantic sense. well, as i was thinking about that one day and remembering the feeling i'd like to have toward someone i realized that it is the feeling i have for the literary characters that i really enjoy. dr. who, thomas covenant, superman, various other superheroes, capt. picard (of course), and others i can't remember just now.

i want a compelling well-written man! a man of intrigue and charm and maybe a little danger, realized or implied. :)

unfortunately real people are never that, usually. but, what does redeem some men is a good wit, an easy smile, and a fairminded calm. plus, who can refuse a man with compelling features. think about Adrien Brody, who could refuse that nose?

so yeah....

i forget that i don't talk to alot of people anymore. last semester was pretty sucky for more reasons than just the classes i was taking. my aunt died last semester and my uncle has lung cancer. all of which wasn't really fun news.

since i've had so much downtime over this semester break i've started to feel more like myself and have been cooking from time to time and reading books i enjoy and have had time to think. so that news from last semester really sucks.

yet another job update (YAJU)

so i've been emailing recently with the guy that started his own consulting business whose name i got from the president of a local bioinformatics consulting company. after a few emails with him (he has been great with advice) i applied at some consulting co's i hadn't heard of before and thru one of those i've been emailing with another ceo and might have a phone interview next week.

all of this talking with presidents and ceo's sort of fills me with YIPE! but also MEH.

it's nice to have people to talk to though.

plus i've applied for lots more jobs this week, the ones i can remember are 2 NIH jobs and 2 USDA jobs and 2 jobs at janelia farms (the new facility in sterling from the howard hughes medical foundation).

Obviously I live in the wrong place/time

Todays news is awesome. I'm thoroughly enjoying the headlines as I sit
in murky coffee surrounded by dickhead lawyers-to-be who would probably
blanche and fall over dead if they read about cannibals, men dying on
racks, and legalizing brothels.

More job apps

So last monday I applied for >5 more jobs and friday I emailed the
president guy I had talked with all the week before last and he
responded today saying they had filled the part time $20/hr job with a
post-doc. A post-doc??? Are you shitting me??? That's f'ing insane.

He suggested I try janelia farms, which is a good idea. I'd sent them
my resume last year but didn't hear anything so I applied for 2
positions out there.

Tomorrow I want to apply for 5 nih jobs. That'll take awhile because
the gov application requirements are f'ing f'd up. But I'm going to use
the uspo service where you upload the files for them to print and mail
so I don't have to head to kinkos and can just get it all done at my
desk.

Also up for tomorrow is checking on textbooks and buying them either
from the campus bookstore or amazon, whichever is cheaper.

I also checked for jobs at howard hughes medical foundation but there
weren't any I could do. It'd be a short drive to chevy chase, md
though.

8 days

when i woke up yesterday i realized it was only 9 days until classes started. ugh.

so i signed up for classes yesterday, i'll be taking:
microarray analysis
biophysics
biometrics
bioinformatic seminar

the only class i actually want to take is the microarray analysis class, the others i'm just taking so i can get the full stafford loan disbursement. i was hoping to somehow have magically found a job in january so i could start that and drop to part time in grad school. i've been applying like crazy before the semester break and during it but nothing has turned up. so i'm stuck taking 10 credits of what will probably be very hard classes.

suckage.
