Bein' a Cybus Corporation Pimp!

Yeah, you have no idea what I'm talking about. Cybus Corporation was a
mega-corp in an ep of dr. Who on an alternate earth. They supplied the
world with dual ear wireless info ports and then used them to take
control of people and convert them into Cybermen.
My sony earphones look similar to Cybus's devices.
Doesn't my hair look nice? Dayum.

Macbook unveiling

Got a macbook and ipod today (thank you student discount). Here is the
step-wise de-packaging. Its downstairs pulling the james-files from my
desktop now.
I'm excited to fiddle with the ipod and the video capabilities (should
be fun on the metro). Plus, now I'll be able to go to coffee and work
on school stuff or things for my professor without having to spend all
day in the basement.

Week 2
I've finished my 2nd week at my new job. There isn't much new stuff to
tell. I'm still sort of waiting for some substantial work to come my
way.
There have been more meetings and note taking but nothing demanding.
I did get access to the database this week, which I'm excited about. I
messed around a little with it but I'll need more time to figure out how
to pull the info my group is used to getting.
We have an intern now, he seems like a nice kid. I think he's 16 or
something but we IM pretty much the same. How funny is that? ;)
I gave him a microarray and a database rundown/review earlier in the
week. He's interested in biology so I wanted to explain the crazy
amazing state of advancement we're at now (with microarrays). Flawed as
they are they are still amazing technology. He seemed to appreciate
the time I spent and how interactive I was. I would stop and ask him if
he knew what I was talking about periodically when I started using
technical terms. He never knew what I was talking about. ;) so I'd
explain what it was and how it fit into the larger explanation.
Aside from meetings, talking to the intern, and playing with the
database, I'm not sure I did much else.
I did go to a worker appreciation thing in DC and talked to some
co-workers and stuff. That was nice.
Murky Musical Chairs

I don't come to Murky Coffee in arlington nearly enough anymore since I
got my job. Its only saturdays and sundays for me now. Because of this
I was surprised to walk in to see the furniture completely re-arranged
in the front and back rooms. I didn't go upstairs to see how that had
changed. The pics are from the backroom where the bathrooms are.
Bathroom devastation

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
One of the bathrooms @ murky coffee has had a primer coat of paint put
over the great graffiti. :(
We are all reduced by the white room.

Stupid metro!
Damn it. I got on the red line @ bethesda @ 450pm thinking I'd beat the
rush hour crunch by a few minutes. Instead, the car sat at bethesda for
10 minutes and is now stuck somewhere out from bethesda because they are
down to a single track. Or something. I couldn't understand what the
conductor said over the crappy PA.

Toxic Tiki Lounge Party

Brunch @ Mama Quan's!

I noticed yesterday that Mama Quan's Tiki Hut has brunch on the weekend
now so I decided to try it today. I ordered the Veggie and Cheese
Omelete and a coffee. The Omelete comes with home fries, bacon or
sausage ( I chose bacon ) and english muffin, toast, or something else I
can't remember ( I chose english muffin ). The food looks great and
there's a hell of a lot of it for $9 ( I think its $9, the highest price
on the menu was $11 and that was something farther down the page ).
Had a bite of the omelete and was pleasantly surprised to find that the
egg wasn't salted but the vegetables are tasty, fresh, and just a little
salty. That's a nice plus because usually you get completely bland
food that you have to salt yourself, at other places I mean.
The home fries are seasoned as well, very nice. I've made no additions
to the plate except some black pepper on the omelete.
The vegetables in the omelete are mushrooms, finely grated carrot, red
and green pepper, onion.
Finished the meal. It was very tasty and satisfying.
Could the Bushies have done something right?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/low/americas/5092228.stm
I'm going to say 'No'. They didn't stop the plan or infiltrate the
organization. It was stopped by that cleric douchebag and then 'we'
later learned about the canceled plan and got our panties in a bunch.

Week 1
Well, I finished the first week at my job and it seems OK. Typical
stressballs rolling around the office, which just triggers me to react
in the opposite way. It should work out well once stuff actually starts
to get done and I can centralize control in my position, which is what
they want. There's money to be saved and stress to reduce simply by
being more efficient and timely.
So aside from that, the metro sucks! Jesus christ, monday and tuesday
is horrible on the orange and red lines. I have to stand both days on
both trips and when its humid the air doesn't cool in the car so well
with all the bodies radiating heat, so I sweat...and sweat...
So that's a minus, but its economical to take the metro and frankly the
walking is good exercise since I sit so much for this job.
I started trying to eat better this week too. I figure may as well roll
a lot of change together all at once so I don't notice overly much.
I've had 6 tablespoons of yogurt in the mornings (all I can stand after
being awake only 40mins), 2 medium/small pbj sandwiches for lunch, and
tomatoes with a side of salad and bread for dinner. All of which means
no money flowing out for food costs besides that spent at the grocery.
Its not easy though, my stomach was growling on tuesday and I've felt
hungry more than once in the morning at work but after lunch I'm usually
fine.
I've also had a cold or a sinus infection or something this week. I
have no idea where it came from but must have been before I started
riding the metro and going to work, assuming a week incubation.
I also have an annoying tender spot on the bottom edge of my upper lip
on the left side. I'm terrified its a wart or herpes or some crazy shit
like that but more sensibly I think its just an irritated scraped area
from using a plastic spoon on thursday night when I had ice cream at
staceys in falls church. It is admittedly less tender/annoying today
and hasn't had any 'eruption' morphology.
I'm already feeling less bloated from eating drastically less than I
usually would. I noticed my profile in a store window today too and my
stomach bulge wasn't quite as bulgy. I don't have any illusions I've
lost weight but just having less in the gut is nice.
I've also been thinking about romantic interests lately which is more
than a little confusing. I'm really not sure what exactly my desire
is. I think its just a general desire for more social interaction and
that's spilling over into sexual desire. I thinking dating before
growing the social or friend circle is definitely putting the cart
before the horse though. So common sense will prevail I think.
Which doesn't make me think less about massaging and kissing beautiful
bald mens heads (I've been finding guys who would be a phrenologists
dream particularly alluring lately) or wanting to throw down with some
hot tattooed + pierced punks, but ya know, I deal. My inner animal is
definitely awake and roaring though now. I can't imagine it will be
long before I have to find some outlet for the beast.
So that's my week. Some new stuff, some different stuff, and a lot of
regular boring stuff.

Jobified!

Here I am in my job clothes. This is funny for me because for 5yrs as a
network engineer I wore shorts and tshirts all the time, jeans in the
winter. So having to wear pants and a shirt that buttons is strange.
But, I can deal. :)

aspirin, but no condoms. Cuz ppl never have sex at the movies.
Lunch @ pizza roma

Pizza Roma
4216 N. Fairfax Dr.
Arlington, VA, 22203
I ordered the spinach calzone and a medium drink. It is huge! It was
also fresh and very tasty with spinach, feta, mozzerella cheese and
pizza sauce on the side. Definitely a place to come back to.

Quite a friday
Today feels like it has been quite a day.
I slept in til 10am and woke up from dreams of a homeless man who got
into our house thru some tunnels in the basement and left a mess in the
bathtub and in the toilet and pulled a gun on me and eventually I locked
him out of the house. That was very stressful so I was happy to wake
up.
Then, knowing I had to wait for the offer letter to arrive today
(figuring I had to sign for it), I showered and sat down with some
hummous and pita @ 11am for a snack and fiddled with a new tivo
feature. After the snack I had 2 cups of coffee while I watched 3
rocketboom eps and last nights daily show. During the 2nd cup of coffee
I checked the mail and found the letter inside the screendoor.
Apparently I didn't need to sign for it. I wonder how long it was
there? No idea. So I finished my cup of coffee and headed out to sign
and fax it to the hr lady.
I walked down to the kinkos in courthouse instead of driving to the
other kinkos because my car started acting funny yesterday and I didn't
want to deal with it. I'm not sure when I left the house or when I
arrived at the kinkos (where I also printed out 3 papers from a
professor), but I know when I left it was around 3pm and I was hungry.
So I went across the street to mr. Hibachi and had curried beef ( I
think there may have been 4 pieces of beef), jap chae (very tasty), and
kim chi ( also tasty ). As I sat and photoblogged, ate lunch, and read
the news it started to rain. Well, it let up enough so I thought I
could leave and I did, but I was wrong and got rained on. So, to get
out of the rain I walked up (towards home) 2 blocks and sheltered in
java shack with a coffee while the rain played out.
I left java shack around 5pm or so and had decided to have some drinks
so I went to mama quan's tiki hut. There I had a papa quan, manhattan,
and a grilled chicken sandwich. A few minutes after I got my food it
started to downpour. Even though there was a private party renting the
inside of the restaurant they were nice enough to move the patio patrons
indoors. I ate my meal and watched it rain cats and dogs and read part
of one of the papers I had printed earlier.
With the meal done and my drinks drank, I left for home. I arrived
around 730pm I think.
I guess not much really happened but it feels like it. I was pretty
engrossed in thought when I was walking and the rain makes the day seem
like an ordeal. I'm in a good mood about it all.
Mama Quan's Tiki Hut

Having a Papa Quan, 'dark & light rum, triple sec, lime juice,
grenadine, and friut juices'. Pretty tasty though very light on the
liquor. Its $8 for the signature Quan drinks, a little bit of a
ripoff. Nice venue though, sunny and shady at the same time, quiet
enough to talk (if I was here with someone).
