Chef Geoffs in DC for brunch

Brian and I decided to try Chef Geoffs for brunch.  He had the Senators Steak and I had the French Toast and we split Gouda Grits.  We both had coffee and orange juice for me, mimosa for him.

It was very tasty and well worth the $25 set price per person.

Entire Butt English Porter

Decided to pick up this beer and try it with dinner.  Apparently Entire Butt is a term to describe a porter that is a blend of different ales.  It tastes delicious, I'm very happy with this purchase.

New Years Resolutions?

I never make New Years Resolutions but since one of my resolutions is to change some habits then I suppose I'm going to. Paradox already! YES!

Mostly all the things I'm thinking of have 'Take better care of yourself' at the heart of them, but specifically they are:

1. Be a little cuter, a little more often. To me this means just try to get a haircut and shave more regularly, and maybe look a little nicer going to work for the express purpose of possibly going out after work for an hour or two to hang with friends.

2. Try to lose some weight. I think for this I'll resume doing pushups and prone bridges in the morning now and when the mornings get a little warmer in March or so maybe start going on fast walks/runs. I'll be coming home and riding my bike in the afternoon/evenings anyway so I'd be trying to get more physical activity into the day where I can.

3. Find doctors and go see them. This one is because I haven't been to a dentist in 17yrs and an optometrist in at least 6yrs. I'd also like to get the right side of my head fixed. The sinuses and ear and tonsil/throat are always having problems on that side of my head and it wasn't always like that in the past.

4. Try to be more social. This one ties into #1.

Those are all I can think of right now but they encompass quite a bit. I accomplished several goals in the last year that put me in a great position going into 2009. I have new financial goals for 2009 and while accomplishing them there will be room to enjoy myself more.

Walking around DC

I was up until 4am last night because I couldn't sleep after hanging out with Marcus most of the day yesterday and having a late dinner. I slept in til 10am today and made a huge plate of eggs and hit up Brian and Michael to see if they wanted to go on an impromptu long walk in the city. They said yes and we had a great time. :)

Well really it was a walk to Armands Pizza first, then Rays Hell Burger, then back through clarendon and Barnes & Noble, then home. But whatev.

'The Mack' at Rays Hell Burger

I'd seen ppl check in here on brightkite and reviews on yelp so I was curious to try it out.

Rays Hell Burger
1713 Wilson Blvd
Arlington, VA

I ordered the Value Deal, which was 'The Mack' with a side, I chose the cheesy tater puffs, and a rootbeer for $10.91.   It was a good burger.  That's all I can say about it, nothing bad but no interesting flavors, just a very reliable burger.  The cheesy tater puffs were pretty flavorless though, don't bother ordering them.

Would I come back?    Welll....I wouldn't _not_ come back, but it's a one hit shop so only if I was close and wanted a burger.

Pizza and cupcakes in georgetown

OMG!  This will kill me.  Vincent and I walked into Georgetown to try Georgetown Cupcakes only to discover it is closed today.  Next door to it is a cheesesteak and pizza shop though!  We suspect they serve some kind of _awesome_ meat shakes too, we must check it out later.

But cmon, pizza next to cupcakes??  Who could resist?!

Timely turn of events for 'clean coal'

Clean Coal Myth Shattered

Coal Ash Spill Revives Issue of Its Hazards

QUOTE:
The Tennessee Valley Authority has issued no warnings about the potential chemical dangers of the spill, saying there was as yet no evidence of toxic substances. “Most of that material is inert,” said Gilbert Francis Jr., a spokesman for the authority. “It does have some heavy metals within it, but it’s not toxic or anything.”

...

Despite numerous reports from recreational anglers and television news video of a large fish kill downstream of the spill, Mr. Francis said the T.V.A.’s environmental team had not encountered any dead fish. On Swan Pond Road, home to the residences nearest the plant, a group of environmental advocates went door to door telling residents that boiling their water, as officials had suggested, would not remove heavy metals.

Todays travels

Went to Earls and had french toast with maple sausage. It was fair but not as good as I'd expect for eating out. I'll stick to sandwiches I think.

GPS tracker and instamapper

There's a nifty application for the G1 called 'GPS Tracker' that is made by or works in conjunction with instamapper.com. It enables the GPS for the G1 and tracks your position and sends it to your account at instamapper every 1 minute or more frequently when you are moving faster than walking. It's neat because it let me see some of the range I cover just riding my bike for errands and how far I actually travel. I'll post all of my tracks here now and then add new ones as I make them.
