Xmas box from mom

O M G this woman is always so crazy! She sends multiple gifts each
year and its always way too much. The last 2 yrs I've tried to give a
wishlist and resist her a little less. This year I put graphic novels
and shoes on the list and she scored me these SWEET Merrill polartec
shoes. They are perfect and so comfortable, I'm wearing them out to
have drinks with friends.

Now I hope we get a buttload of snow.

I'll unwrap 1 prezzy a day :)

Beautiful rainbow

I was walking from to go grocery shopping and it started to rain lightly
and I took my glasses off so they wouldn't get wet. Then I looked in
the sky and saw a complete arch of rainbow showing strongly all the
colors from red to purple. It was amazing so I put my glasses back on
in the rain and kept looking at the sky as I walked. It probably
appears faint in the pictures but it was bright and a full arch across
the sky going to ground at both ends.

So beautiful.

What if...

I wonder if zombies would be more terrifying if they had venom sacks
like some lizards/snakes and could shoot zombification juice out of
their mouths?

Just somethin I'm wondering after the hrc party, several drinks, and
waiting in lenfant plaza with some lady screaming for humphrey up and
down the platform.

Foggy beauty

This was the view outside my office bldg in bethesda. The fog was
scattering the lights on top of that building and reflecting a lot of it
back down to street level. It was really beautiful and looked very
special.

The tree is outside the clarendon metro. Pretty too. :)

La Madeleine

Had a quick 40 minute ride on the metro and I'm in Bethesda now. I'm
not due into the office til 930am so I stopped at La Madeleine for
chocolate croissant and coffee. My office is right across the street.

I guess I've forgotten to update everyone and announce that the interview I went on in Bethesda, MD was successful. I start the position Monday, November 26, and I am very excited about it. :)
I'll finally be doing work that I anticipate will be very challenging and in my general field, Medical Informatics.
(Wikipedia says that Bioinformatics falls under the wider umbrella of Medical Informatics, who knew?)

Interview day

I'm in Bethesda, MD this morning for an interview. The commute on the
Metro only took 40mins, which surprised me quite a bit. There weren't
any snags at all. I arrived over 2hrs early by design, so I could see
what the Metro was like early in the morning. Once I found the bldg I
would need later I decided to get a coffee. After wandering around for
5 minutes I found La Madeleine across the street from the bldg I'll go
to later. It is a french bakery and cafe, I've only had coffee so far
but it smells wonderful in here. They serve fresh pastries, quiche,
soup, and breakfast plates prepared after you order. The smell of eggs
and buttery croissants is heavenly. If I were going to get food I
think it would be a small quiche lorraine ($4.99) and a small bowl of
melon.

I had stopped in the restroom and noticed some fun tiles on the walls.
I thought it was funny that right next to you as you sit doing your
business is a tile with a woman bent over. Hmmmm.

thoughts on feelings

I just watched Ghost In Your Genes and I think everyone should watch it if they aren't familiar with the concept of Systems Biology or Epigenetics. I was actually moved to tears while I watched this program.

Having watched it, it makes me wonder if there is a reason or cause for why I always feel a sense of dread/worry/caution.

Beyond that, I think it's curious what causes me to swell with emotion. The implication that events beyond peoples control, that occurred to their ancestors or were choices made by their ancestors, could alter their health, mentation, and longevity is just so heady and terrible. The flipside is, of course, that coming to understand this is wonderful and could lead to revolutionary treatments for some conditions.
