Spore shown by Will Wright
i watched the whole 35min video and it looks great. you control a lifeform from it's cellular beginning, up thru it's evolution, configuring it as you go, and when it finally reaches sentience then you control it's species social development from village thru advanced society. you can accomplish space flight which then opens the game arena up to your local solar system and then you can establish colonies on other planets in your solar system. eventually you can accomplish the star drive which will enable you to go to other solar systems to look for intelligent life, which may be friendly or hostile, and colonize other solar systems. then of course it opens up to the whole galaxy.
what is nice about this is that you interact on your early world with creatures created by other gamers and uploaded to a central creature database and then when you achieve society level gameplay they are other cities you have to compete with, then when you achieve interstellar flight they populate other worlds in your universe. so you aren't playing directly against other gamers but are instead playing against sims of creatures/societies created by other gamers.
